AC Repair and HVAC in Allen

This article may be of help to anyone who is having issues with their current AC condenser.
The air conditioning in your home is one of your property’s most valuable assets. Even if it’s not the most “valuable” in terms of monetary worth, it’s definitely valuable in terms of what it can do for you and your family. It’s job is to keep your family cool and safe, and provide a cool, temperature controlled environment to live in.

Whenever you’re troubleshooting issues with your HVAC, be sure to do one or  more of the following to determine what the real issue is with your central air unit.

First off, you may want to check that there isn’t a breaker that has been turned off. If that’s not the issue, and the breaker is switched on, then you might even want to try turning the switch off and then back on. You want to make sure you have it switched completely off however, if you will be working on the compressor itself. It can be dangerous to perform maintenance on an HVAC unit or compressor that currently has electrical power running to it.

Another thing to check is to make sure that there isn’t any kind of debris or trash within the interior of the condenser or compressor. You can easily remove the fan cage on your outdoor unit using a tool, and then check the interior to see if there is anything blocking either the flow of air or the compressor fan as well.

Another place to check for debris, trash, and any other build up from outdoor elements, is the compressor fins. You can simply spray the outside of the unit to make sure that any twigs, trash or debris is not stuck within the fins. this will help with air flow and maintenance in the long term. This is a great and easy way to make sure your air conditioning unit is kept up with and won’t results in need a new AC unit installation.

Another note about the fins - sometimes they need to be realigned vertically. Due to the weather and other outside forces, sometimes the fins will become unaligned and need to be adjusted. You can do so with a screwdriver or other small object that will fit between.

Fifth, make sure you clean up the area around the actual AC compressor or condenser. You need to clean and/or rake any branches, leaves or other outdoor debris around the perimeter or the unit. These types of things can get between the fins, inside the condenser unit, or even near the compressor and cause different air conditioning malfunctions over the long run.

Be sure to ALWAYS take care of your condenser unit! It’s easy to forget about because it’s outside and potentially not on your mind, but it’s important. Especially important if you want to avoid expensive repairs or new unit installations in the future!
